"The Witcher": Netflix series ends with season 5
The Witcher" is set for a fifth season – and will end after that, Netflix announced. Season 4 of the fantasy series is currently in production.

Netflix has commissioned a fifth season of "The Witcher". The production team has announced that the fantasy series will then reach its conclusion. Season 5 is scheduled to be filmed directly after the fourth season, which is currently in production.
"It is with great pride that we begin filming our penultimate season of 'The Witcher'," commented showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich on the announcement. "We are thrilled to bring Andrzej Sapkowski's books to an epic and satisfying conclusion."
The two remaining seasons of "The Witcher" are set to cover the books "Baptism of Fire", "The Swallow Tower" and "Lady of the Lake" by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. A major challenge for the two remaining seasons: lead actor Henry Cavill has turned his back on the series. This is a bitter loss for the makers, as Cavill has repeatedly revealed himself to be a big fan of the source material and was very popular with fans. His role as the titular witcher Geralt will be taken over by Liam Hemsworth from season 4.

Meanwhile, Netflix has signed up another big name for season 4: Laurence Fishburne will play Geralt's companion Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy. Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the fourth season of "The Witcher".
It is also unclear whether all episodes of season 4 of the fantasy series will be released at once. For season 3, Netflix opted for a split release, with the last three episodes being released one month after the first five. Producer Steve Gaub explained this decision as a way of keeping the tension high and giving fans the opportunity to speculate and discuss the story.
